What is the risk for denture cream zinc poisoning?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently does not require denture cream manufacturers to list ingredients on the package. In many denture creams, zinc is a main ingredient.

Used on a daily basis to secure dentures in place, denture cream can be hazardous. Zinc in the cream is ingested into the body through the mouth and decreases the body's copper level. This reaction can cause serious debilitating damage to the peripheral nervous system—the system which connects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to the limbs and organs.
